Short answer: Fortnite has split-screen on PlayStation and Xbox only. Epic lists Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile devices explicitly as not supported. On the consoles it works in Battle Royale, Zero Build and the LEGO Fortnite modes, among others — but not in Solos, Ranked, Creative, Save the World or limited-time modes.
How to start: go to the lobby, connect a second controller and pick the second player’s console account — guest accounts do not work. Fortnite then asks to link an Epic Games account, which also brings that player’s outfits and Battle Pass along. The second player appears in the lobby, and local play begins automatically in supported games (Epic: split-screen).
Things that trip people up: split-screen needs a stable internet connection, both players must use the same language setting, you cannot share inventory, and if one player leaves the match the session ends. In Discover, the row “Great for Local Multiplayer” and the tag “Local Players” show which islands support it.
