🚫 No Split Screen: Elden Ring, GTA 5, Hogwarts Legacy & Co.

Elden Ring split screen? GTA 5 split screen? These are among the most common co-op searches there are, and the answer is the same every time: no. We checked nine of the most-searched games against two independent sources — Steam’s official feature list and the IGDB games database, which records multiplayer modes per platform. Neither lists split-screen or local co-op for any of them. Here is what they offer instead, and which games actually let two people play on one screen.

Most of them are online co-op games: Elden Ring for up to three, Helldivers 2, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Sea of Thieves for up to four, Valheim for up to ten, GTA Online for up to thirty. Palworld and Monster Hunter Wilds also play together online. Hogwarts Legacy is the exception — it has no multiplayer at all. So for every one of these, playing together means two consoles or PCs, and usually two copies of the game.

What about the “split screen mod” results? On PC, unofficial community tools and mods try to run two instances side by side. They are not supported by the publishers, can break with every update and do not exist on consoles. We do not link them.

If what you want is the same kind of game on one screen, there are real alternatives. Instead of Elden Ring or Monster Hunter: Baldur’s Gate 3 or Divinity: Original Sin II, both with split-screen, or the darker Diablo IV. Instead of Helldivers 2: Borderlands 3 or Gears 5. Instead of Valheim or Palworld: Terraria. Instead of Hogwarts Legacy: LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4. Open worlds like GTA are the hardest gap — split-screen and huge streamed worlds rarely go together, which is part of why it disappeared.
